GH@W Success Story

Building a healthier business. Suffolk entrepreneur Jonathan Fussell aims for Gold with two Good Health @Work Award journeys.

Suffolk entrepreneur Jonathan Fussell, founder of two thriving local businesses, joined the Good Health @Work (GH@W) programme with a clear aim, to explore how achieving the Bronze Award could benefit his team, strengthen workplace culture, and support overall business wellbeing.

From day one, Jonathan saw that supporting both mental and physical health wasn’t just about individual balance, it was a key part of creating more connected, motivated teams and delivering better results for his clients.

A guided path to Workplace Wellbeing.

Working closely with GH@W Navigator Gail Jones, Jonathan began his journey by completing an Organisational Health Assessment for Fussell Photography, his first business. Together, they identified opportunities to align workplace practices with the GH@W standards needed to achieve the Bronze Award.

This process offered more than just a checklist, it gave Jonathan the chance to reflect on how wellbeing ties into every part of his business, from leadership values and employee engagement to daily routines. With Gail’s guidance, he developed a tailored action plan and quickly set his sights on aiming higher than Bronze.

Aiming for Gold-twice.

Inspired by the early results and the momentum building within his team, Jonathan chose to extend the programme to his second business, Bythcott Database Services Limited. He’s now fully committed to taking both businesses all the way to Gold Award status.

Rather than treating the award as a one-time achievement, Jonathan is embedding long-term wellbeing strategies into the heart of both organisations. His approach is forward-thinking, people-focused, and grounded in making real, lasting changes for his staff and the clients they serve.

Leading from the front.

Jonathan’s story shows how small businesses can take big steps when it comes to prioritising workplace wellbeing. His decision to commit both companies to the full GH@W journey highlights the value of investing in people, not just for morale, but for business growth too.

“I just wanted to see what the Bronze Award could do for me, my team and business culture,” Jonathan explains. “But the more I engaged with the standards, the more I realised how much they reflected my own values. That’s when I knew I wanted to go all in for both businesses.”

Inspiring other Employers to act.

Now with both companies on track for Gold, Jonathan hopes his experience will inspire more Suffolk employers to look at workplace wellbeing not as a tick-box, but as a business priority.

“It’s not just about success,” he says. “It’s about making a difference in the lives of the people who help you get there. The programme gave me the structure, support and motivation to build something better, for everyone involved.”
